Return Fuel Air Cooler (RFAC)

Mezzo proposed two versions of the Return Fuel Air Cooler (RFAC) heat exchanger for the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF):

Design 1:  Within a given envelope, Mezzo’s design provides twice the UA as the existing unit with the same air-side pressure drop. 

Design 2:  Mezzo’s second design provides the same UA, 50% lower air-side pressure drop, the same UA (heat transfer), and significantly lower weight.

Both units were designed to satisfy given vibration, shock, and sand and dust fouling requirements which were provided.
